Katie Doherty is an award-winning songwriter from the North East of England.

The Navigators were formed in 2018 to explore the depth and power a trio could bring to Doherty's songs. Their 2019 album 'And Then' saw them tour Nationally and led to live appearances on both BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 3. They graced the stages of Cambridge Folk Festival, Cheltenham Music Festival, Manchester Folk Festival amongst many others.

Hurricane is a powerful rallying cry, a call to action and uprising against divisiveness, discrimination and injustice; a force for good.

The track takes the trios ‘Folk’ label into new territory combining epic beats, slick synths, and power vocals taking inspiration from the best song - storytellers. Listen for echos of both Regina Spektor and Nancy Kerr.

FLOW has been produced by Mattie Foulds (Karine Polwart, Rachel Newton, Adam Holmes and The Embers). The album is their boldest story telling yet. The songs paint sweeping pictures and and intricate portraits of the times we are living in. Consistently rooted in a craggy North East landscape but with a telescopic lens outwards across the sea.

The video for Hurricane has been produced by dancer/animator Jem Clancy who has animated dancers from Tin Arts - an arts organisation from the North East of England who remove barriers and increase access to high quality dance and performing arts. The choreography was developed during workshops with the dancers facilitated by award winning writer Laura Lindow.

lyrics

I can feel a hurricane a coming
Coming through

I can feel a hurricane a coming
What are we gunna do?

Oh it’s getting stronger all the time

Building up to what is yours and what is mine
Oh it’s getting stronger all the time

Building up to what is yours and what is mine

And I ain’t never been a rebel
Till I had a little boy

And they told him from the start
That a gun was a toy
Now I’m swerving broken branches on the road
Through the eye of the storm

Can you feel the wind is crying freedom?
Freedom and truth

Can you feel the wind is crying freedom?
What are we gunna do?

Oh it’s getting louder everyday

Drowning out all of the ugly words they say
Oh it’s getting louder everyday

Drowning out all of the ugly words they say

And I am predisposed to quiet
But I’m not afraid of noise

And the louder winds are blowing
Well the more you need a voice
I will not leave it to the children
To tidy up the mess that we made

WAIT.

Look at the time, I am late
Who’s gunna meet me by the gate?
Who’s coming with me?

Who’s coming with me?

WAIT.

Look at the time, I am late

Who’s gunna meet me by the gate?
Who’s coming with me?

Who’s coming with me?

And I ain’t never been a rebel
Till I had a little boy

And they told him from the start
That a gun was a toy
Now I’m swerving broken branches on the road
Through the eye of the storm

Who’s coming with me?

I am predisposed to quiet
But I’m not afraid of noise

And the louder winds are blowing
Well the more you need a voice

I will not leave it to the children
To tidy up the mess that we made

I can feel a hurricane a coming Coming through

I can feel a hurricane a coming What are we gunna do?
